The way things change

Tomorrow it will be 6 years since Dave and I started dating (we have been married for almost 4). The date was on a Saturday, so I figure that would actually be tonight.

That night we went to dinner and a movie and then back to my place. I think right about now we were sitting on my couch having a beer and talking. We had so much to talk about back then because neither of us had heard each others stories yet. I don't mean that to sound wistful because we still talk a lot, but we have definitely heard each others stories. It is fun to remember the times at the beginning of love when you can't get enough of each other and talk on the phone for hours and the thoughts of that person consume you.

Right now Dave is playing Call of Duty with Sam and I am in the office blogging. It is 10:30 on a Saturday night. It's funny how things change.

I came home yesterday to find that Dave had purchased me a spa package and scheduled it for tomorrow. So I will be getting a 90 minute massage tomorrow morning followed by a manicure and pedicure. That man has come a long way on his gift giving. I used to have to tell him exactly what to buy for me or he would freak out and not buy my anything (this includes my engagment ring, he was too afraid to pick it out without me)

My point is that while it is fun to remember what it was like at the beginning, right now is exactly where I want to be.

Bacon Cupcakes

Last night I successfully gained control of the TV clicker and got to watch a few precious minutes of the Food Network (which if I did not work I'm sure I would watch all day long but that is another story!). So I was watching Unwrapped and Dave was reading a book (Learned Optimism - great book if you are looking to improve your outlook on life). So guess what the guy from Double Dare was talking about on Unwrapped last night? Bacon. And Dave loves him some bacon. Did you know there is a Bacon of the Month club? Oh yes, there is.

And guess who now wants to join it?

Complainy McComplainerson

Have you ever heard the saying "10% of the people do 90% of the work"? I feel like that is me lately. It seems like, at my company, the reward for being a hard worker and gettin it done is more work. Yay! My husband once said to me that it is important to manage your employees and make sure you are holding everyone accountable because it is very bad for morale to pile on your performers and allow others to be slackers. This concept is really being driven home with me right now because that is what is happening to me. I almost cried in front of my boss this morning (a huge no no) and had to bite on my tongue until it bled to make myself stop. It was the closest I have ever come to crying in front of him.

In other news, my husband has contracted my cold and in an attempt to ward it off has been eating whole raw garlic cloves. Do I really need to say anymore about that?

Happy Birthday Dave!

32 years ago today (and exactly two months after my blessed arrival), my mother-in-law had her belly cut open and my future husband was plucked from the warm quiet cocoon of her womb. And he never got over it ;)

Unbenownst to both of us at the time, it would take 28 years for us to meet. Several times through the years, I seriously considered the possibility that he did not exist and nearly gave up to join a convent. I know for a fact that he did give up for a few years. But I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason - even if it does not seem obvious or we cannot for the life of us figure it out. And obviously there were things both of us needed to do before we came together. And there were two children that needed to be born. I'm almost certain that Rebecca is going to be the one to come up with the cure for cancer! Now I know it sounds cheesy, but he was totally worth the wait.

Happy Birthday Dave! I love you more than words!

Men are from Mars

I came home from yoga last night and Dave was watching "Enterprise." Remember, that was the one Star Trek show I said I can't get on board with. Well he watches it every Monday - they show like 4 episodes on the Sci Fi Channel. So I am vaguely aware of the characters since I sometime relent and sit there with him.

So here is the conversation that went on between us last night - as I came in and noticed that the Vulcan, Tepal, was having a conversation with future self about the fact that she ends up marrying Tripp.

Me: "Which one is Tripp? The blonde guy?"

Him: "No! Tripp - he's the engineer." He may as well have said DUH!

Okay. I have no flipping idea who the engineer is. I know the Vulcan chick, the black guy, the blond haired guy, the Asian chick, the guy with the British accent etc.... The only one who's occupation on the ship I know is the Captain. It's easy to identify the Captain. Other than that I'm lost. It's like telling me to go 5.2 miles on blah blah blah road and then go east on blah blah blah road. Just tell me to go right at the Arby's and if I pass Wendy's I went too far.

Dr Laura and My Husband

I forgot one other thing I wanted to mention. Which was the best one.

Friday I was driving home and listening to Dr. Laura on my XM Radio (don't laugh) and she was telling on of her callers to stop on his way home and buy his wife some flowers. And I started thinking that it has been a long time since Dave has given my flowers. So I was thinking when I got home I was going to ask him if he doesn't love me anymore since it's been so long since he's bought me flowers and he usually makes it a point to do it every few months.

And I'm not kidding you, I walked in the door and there on the counter is a dozen red roses! I couldn't believe it.

I took some pictures of them; they are gorgeous. But my lazy punk ass hasn't taken the time to load the software for my new camera onto my computer so I can't load them. Sorry. You'll just have to imagine them. But I assure you - they are gorgeous!!

He says he got stopped by a train on the way home right in front of the florist and that is why he bought them. :)
